  1. Click the username in the top-right of the Delete Your Account page.
  2. Click
    assets
next to Edit profile and select Log out.
  3. Log back in as the account you want to delete and follow the directions above.

After your account is deleted, you can sign up again with the same username or add that username to another account as long as it hasn't been taken by a new person on Instagram.
Keep in mind that if your account is removed for violating Community Guidelines, you may not be able to sign up again with the same username.
After 30 days of your account deletion request, your account and all your information will be permanently deleted, and you won't be able to retrieve your information. During those 30 days the content remains subject to Instagram’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and is not accessible to other people using Instagram.
It may take up to 90 days to complete the deletion process after it begins. Copies of your content may remain after the 90 days in backup storage that we use to recover in the event of a disaster, software error, or other data loss event. We may also keep your information for things like legal issues, terms violations, or harm prevention efforts. Learn more about this in our Privacy Policy.

How to open a Revolut account online

If you love the idea of managing your money using just a smartphone app, you might want to take a look at Revolut.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to open a Revolut account, for both personal and business banking. Plus, some handy tips on types of Revolut accounts and who is eligible to open one.

We’ll even throw in a brilliant alternative, so that you have more options to choose from before opening an account. The Wise multi-currency account offers a convenient, affordable way to send and receive money internationally, and you can keep track of everything in a handy mobile app.

But more on that later. First, let’s take a closer look at Revolut.

Who can open a Revolut account?

Anyone who is 18¹ and over can open a Revolut account. The digital bank has started to offer Junior accounts for children, but they are still managed by an adult.

The only other conditions for opening a Revolut account are as follows¹:

  • You can’t have more than one Revolut personal account
  • You can’t use a Revolut personal account for business purposes
  • You can’t open a new Revolut account if the company has previously closed down your previous account.

Types of Revolut accounts

Revolut offers a few different types of account, so you can choose the best one for your needs.

Revolut Personal

The first is the Revolut Personal account, available in Standard (free), Plus, Premium and Metal Plans - each increasing in monthly cost, in return for extra features.

Revolut Business

If you want an account for your business, there are a few Revolut Business plans to choose from. These include a free account and three paid options - Grow, Scale and Enterprise.

There’s also an option for freelancers, who can choose from a Free, Professional or Ultimate plan.

Revolut Junior

Lastly, Revolut offers a Junior account, designed for children but controlled by a parent. Plan options include Standard (free), Plus, Premium and Metal.

How to open a Revolut personal account

Now that we’ve checked out eligibility and you’ve chosen the type of account you need, it’s time to focus on getting that Revolut account open.

Here’s what you’ll need to do²:

  1. Download the Revolut app, available at the Google Play and App Store. You can also enter your mobile phone number on the Revolut website, and Revolut will send you a message with a link to download the Revolut app.
  2. Open the app, enter your phone number and create a 4-digit passcode for your new account
  3. You’ll receive a text message from Revolut containing a PIN - you’ll need to enter this into the app to verify your account for security purposes
  4. Enter your personal information, including name, birth date, address and email address
  5. Make an initial deposit from another bank account
  6. Verify your identity by selecting the ‘Profile’ icon in the app, then selecting ‘personal details’ and ‘verify your identity’. Take and upload a photo of a valid form of ID, such as your passport, and a photo of your face³.
  7. Choose which plan you’d like, whether a free account or one with a monthly fee and extra features.

How to open a Revolut business account

There’s a slightly different process for opening a Revolut business account. You’ll need to fill in a short online application form⁴.

Once this is submitted, you’ll join a short queue while the Revolut business account team reviews your application. They’ll get in touch if they need any more information or documentation, or to confirm any details⁴.

The requirements to open an account vary depending on the type of business you run. But here’s what you’re likely to need⁵:

  • The basic incorporation details for your business - such as its registered name and address, trading name, legal form, registration date and incorporation number
  • Your name, address and photo, plus a form of photo ID (such as a passport) to confirm your identity
  • The operating address of your business
  • Proof of the nature of your business
  • Details of directors and shareholders
  • Proof of your authority to open and manage the account.

How long does it take to open a Revolut account?

According to the Revolut website, you can open a new Personal account in minutes⁶. It can sometimes take a little longer to receive confirmation of the identity verification process, anywhere up to 24 hours or more⁷.

It can take longer to open a Revolut business account. The time required to fill in the initial online application form should only be about 10 minutes⁸. However, the onboarding process after this stage can vary considerably depending on your type of business and whether the Revolut business team needs any more information/documents from you⁸.

Alternatives to Revolut - the Wise multi-currency account

Revolut offers a quick and easy way to get a current or business account, but remember that it isn’t the only game in town.

The Wise multi-currency account offers the ideal solution for those who need to manage their money across borders.

It’s simple and fast to sign up for a Wise account, and there are no monthly fees to worry about. You can hold 50+ currencies at once, and make worldwide transfers for low fees and the real exchange rate. Best of all, you can track all your transfers and manage your money using the Wise mobile app.

There are special features for businesses, such as making bulk payments in just a few clicks, and a Wise debit card for low-cost spending in 200 countries.

So, if you need to pay overseas suppliers for your business or get paid for freelance work from a client in another country, it could be well worth a look.

Is Revolut safe?

Revolut is not a bank, and therefore does not need to adhere to the regulations banks must comply with. It is however regulated by the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as an electronic money institution providing financial services.
To comply with these regulations, Revolut is obliged to protect customers. Revolut says on its website: “Funds with Revolut remain safeguarded in accounts with a tier-one UK bank, as per our obligations under the electronic money regulations".
Revolut partners with traditional banks that hold customers’ funds on Revolut’s behalf in actual bank accounts. If Revolut became insolvent, then funds credited to its accounts would be returned to you and other Revolut users before Revolut pays out its other creditors.
Also, all of your card transactions are processed by the Mastercard or Visa network and are protected by Mastercard or Visa rules.

A few things worth noting

As Revolut accounts are electronic money accounts instead of bank accounts, your deposits are not guaranteed under the UK Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS).
As with any app or website, watch out for phishing scams. Phishing scams are designed to obtain your personal information to get access to your account. Remember, Revolut will only communicate with you through their online chat feature. They will not email you or offer support through social media or any other means.
Watch out for anyone calling you who says they are from customer support or another bank and are asking you for personal details or to withdraw money.
If you have any concerns, contact Revolut for more information.

Final Words

After considering all the features Revolut has to offer and learning about the application process, it is time to make a decision on whether to become one of the Revolut customers.

Skrill

Skrill² is a mobile wallet which has been available since 2001. You can receive payments to your Skrill account, shop online, send money to other Skrill accounts or regular bank accounts around the world, and get a linked Visa card for in person payments.

Skrill also has a loyalty program which lets customers earn when they spend and use their Skrill account. Get points for all transactions, and trade them for cash vouchers.

Skrill can be a handy way to manage your funds, receive and send payments, and shop in person and online. However, there are fees which can be on the high side for some international transactions - and if you don’t use your account at least once a year, you’ll get to pay a 5 USD inactivity fee³.

Skrill Pros & Cons

Here are some pros and cons to help you decide if Skrill is the one for you.

ProsCons
  • Spend online, in apps or using your linked Skrill card
  • Free to send money to another Skrill account
  • No fee to add funds
  • Loyalty program to earn points and unlock vouchers
  • Business accounts available
  • You’ll need to upgrade your account to True Skriller to avoid some fees

Wise

If you’re looking for an alternative to Revolut which offers low cost, fast and easy international payments, the Wise account may be right for you. Wise payments can be up to 6x cheaper than your normal bank, and often arrive instantly.

In your Wise account, you can hold 50+ currencies, and get a linked card to spend around the world. You’ll also be able to access local account details to get paid from 30 countries fee-free.

Wise works a little differently to Revolut when it comes to fees. Revolut's customers who choose a free standard account get a set amount of free currency conversion and transactions, but fees apply if you use your account frequently. All Wise accounts are free, with low, transparent fees for currency exchange and transactions - no matter how often you use your account.

Wise Pros & Cons

Not sure where you stand on the Revolut vs Wise debate? Check out these Wise pros and cons to help you choose.

ProsCons
  • Send payments to 80 countries with low and transparent fees

Chime

Chime⁴ offers accounts for day to day use and savings, which come with a linked debit card for easy spending and free in network withdrawals at 60,000 ATMs. Chime doesn’t have its own banking license, but instead offers services through top tier banking partners to keep customers’ money safe.

Chime might be the perfect Revolut alternative for you if you’re looking for a way to save money or build your credit score. Chime’s high yield accounts offer 0.5% APY at the time of research - which is 8x the national average. Chime also has specialist services to help people manage their money and build credit, including a secured credit card and fee-free overdrafts to cover small value payments.

Chime Pros & Cons

Still on the fence about Chime? Check out these Chime pros and cons to help you decide if it’s right for you. You can also learn more about Chime in this Chime review.

ProsCons
  • No monthly fees and fee-free in network ATM withdrawals
  • Early payments through direct deposit
  • Secure credit card to improve credit score
  • Market beating interest on high yield account
  • 2.50 USD out of network ATM withdrawal fee⁵
  • Third party fees may apply for some services⁴
  • No international transfer service
revolut alternative

PayPal

As Revolut competitors go, PayPal is a pretty big one. If you ever shop online, the chances are you’ve already got a PayPal account. But did you know you can also access a broad range of account services including direct deposits, savings tools, credit and cash back on spending?

As well as their account services, PayPal offers the option to buy now, pay later - splitting the costs of eligible payments into 4. There’s no interest as long as you pay according to the payment schedule, and no impact on your credit score. You can also get a PayPal debit, prepaid or credit card.

Like Revolut, you can send convenient transfers with PayPal, but its main disadvantage may probably be the fees. Although you can send a personal payment domestically within the US for free from your PayPal balance or linked bank account, there’s a 2.9% fee for most card transfers. International payments come with an even higher 5% fee, plus currency conversion costs⁶.

PayPal Pros & Cons

New to PayPal? Check out these pros and cons and read more about what PayPal is and how it works, here.

ProsCons
  • Send, receive and hold payments
  • Shop online, in app, and in person with a linked card
  • Get PayPal credit
  • Arrange direct deposits to your account
  • Savings tools
  • 2.9% fee to send a domestic payment using credit card⁶
  • 5% international transfer fee⁶
  • 3% - 4% currency conversion fee⁶
revolut alternative

N26

Berlin based N26⁷ previously offered US residents a free online and mobile account with a linked debit card, free in network ATM withdrawals, and no foreign transaction fees. N26 was a popular provider, especially because of their low fee approach and convenient services.

However, the bad news for N26 fans is that N26 closed their US service on January 18, 2022 to focus on growing their European business.

N26 is no longer a Revolut alternative option if you’re in the US. However, if you’re in mainland Europe they may be a good pick if you’re looking for a provider with a local banking license which operates on a low fee model.

N26 Pros & Cons

Let's have a look at the pros and potential cons of using N26 as your provider.

ProsCons
  • Online and mobile account services
  • No monthly charges
  • Early payday with direct deposit
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • No minimum balance
  • ATM withdrawals outside Allpoint’s network come with a fee of $2 + 2%⁷
  • Credit cards not available⁷

Bottom line

While Revolut offers an interesting range of account options, they’re not right for everyone. The good news is that there are a few strong Revolut alternatives out there if you’re looking for an easy and low-cost way to manage your money online and through mobile apps.

Which Revolut competitor is best for you will depend on how you want to use your account. The providers we’ve listed out here have their own strengths and weaknesses, pros and cons. To pick one, you’ll need to think about the transactions you want to make frequently and look for a provider which offers these services conveniently and with low or no fees.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a better alternative to Revolut?

There are a few key Revolut competitors you might want to consider - but which is right for you may depend on the sort of services you’ll need to use. If you’re looking for a low-cost way to manage your money across currencies, and send and receive international payments, check out the Wise account as a great Revolut alternative.
