**Fulfillment by Merchant (FBM)**, often referred to as "Merchant Fulfillment," is a method of fulfilling orders on Amazon where the seller (merchant) takes full responsibility for storing, packing, and shipping their products directly to the customers. In other words, with FBM, you handle all aspects of order fulfillment, including customer service and returns, rather than relying on Amazon to store and ship your products as with Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA).

Here's how FBM works:

1. **Listing Products:** Sellers who use FBM create product listings on Amazon's marketplace just like FBA sellers. They specify the product details, pricing, and shipping options.

2. **Storing Inventory:** FBM sellers are responsible for storing their inventory in their own facilities or a third-party warehouse. This is in contrast to FBA, where Amazon handles storage in their fulfillment centers.

3. **Order Processing:** When a customer places an order for your product, Amazon notifies you, and you're responsible for picking, packing, and shipping the item. You can choose the carrier and shipping method that suits your needs.

4. **Shipping and Delivery:** FBM sellers must meet Amazon's shipping policies and provide tracking information for orders. Amazon sets certain shipping timeframes and service level expectations for FBM orders to ensure a good customer experience.

5. **Customer Service:** FBM sellers handle customer inquiries, returns, and any issues related to the order. Prompt and effective customer service is essential for maintaining a good seller reputation.

Pros of FBM:
- More control over the fulfillment process.
- Potentially lower storage and fulfillment fees compared to FBA.
- Suitable for sellers with unique or high-value items that need special handling.

Cons of FBM:
- Requires more hands-on work, including inventory management, packing, and shipping.
- May not be as convenient as FBA for handling large volumes of orders.
- Amazon Prime eligibility may be limited for FBM listings, potentially reducing visibility to Prime members.

FBM can be a suitable choice for certain types of sellers, such as those who have products that are not ideal for FBA due to various reasons (e.g., size, fragility, or unique handling requirements). It's also an option for sellers who prefer to maintain full control over their inventory and shipping processes. However, the choice between FBM and FBA depends on your business model, the nature of your products, and your logistical capabilities.
